Fr. Gabriel Scasino, OFM Conv. was baptized at St. Augustine’s North Brandford, CT where he also celebrated his First Holy Communion. It was at Our Lady of Pompeii, East Haven, CT where he really began to feel the promptings of the Holy Spirit to become a Franciscan. Father graduated from Notre Dame High School, West Haven, CT. He entered the Franciscan Friars Conventual that same year in August at Granby, MA. He made his novitiate in Arroyo Grande, CA and professed First Vows on July 26, 1997 in Trenton, NJ. Fr. Gabriel was then sent to Washington, D.C. and graduated from The Catholic University of America with a Ph.B., a pontifical degree of Philosophy in May 2000. After having taught high school Spanish as a layman for nearly 9 years, Fr. Gabriel reentered the Franciscans and began his theological training at Washington Theological Union. Upon graduating from WTU with a Master of Divinity degree, Fr. Gabriel was then sent on a pastoral year to Burlington, N.C. to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community. He professed Solemn Vows on August 6, 2014 and was ordained to the deaconate on September 6, 2014 at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C. by the Most Reverend Barry Knestout. On February 14, 2015 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, Jonesboro, GA Father Gabriel was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend Gregory Hartmeyer, OFM Conv. Father Gabriel has served at the following ministries: Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fayetteville, GA., St. Philip Benizi Parish, Jonesboro, GA., San Damiano Mission in Brooklyn, NY., St. Mark Boynton Beach, FL., and Most Holy Trinity-St. Mary, Brooklyn, NY. Father Gabriel is very happy and excited to be serving the parishioners here at St. Lucie Parish.
